As Marissa and Summer jokingly tease Seth in the hot tub, he places a call to Ryan. Where is this former brooder? At Sadie's, of course. The two are fixing the pipes when police show up, asking questions about Johnny. Could his death not have been an accident? Let's wait over a week past his death and talk to his distant cousin to find out!
Zoom in on the Cohen kitchen. Julie is tired because she's been having some late-night physicals with Dr. Roberts recently. However, the two of them are not pleased with lying to their kids about the relationship. Elsewhere in love land, Matt and Maya are getting along so well that he doesn't even want to discuss business with her - but Sandy reminds his protege that they need the hospital deal to get done.
After school, Ryan goes back to help Sadie. Vulchak shows up to let them know where Johnny's drunk dad can be found (in an eerie coincidence, the V-man's father and J-dawg's used to drink togetger). Ryan and Sadie leave to track down Father Surfer for child support, but not before Ry-guy and Vulchak exchange more manly words of doom.
In sunnier news, Summer asks Kirsten and Julie to set up her father with the perfect woman. This is ironic considering Julie's naked relations with him. She ends up meeting the suave doctor as a restaurant and acting like Sharon Stone to impress him. Taylor catches them, but Summer doesn't mind because her father is happy. That makes more sense than the mind-numbing relationship of Ryan and Marissa. He ends up blowing her off for a road trip with Sadie as they continue to track down Mr. Harper. They end up in a hotel room playing poker, but not for money ... if you get our nude drift.
Despite the three eyewitnesses to Johnny's death, police are still questioning Marissa about it. This causes her, for the first time in show history, to be really upset, contemplative and troubled. Vulchak does offer her comfort, though, if she ever wants it with him. Not as comfortable is Ryan; he's beaten to a proverbial pulp after Sadie takes a pipe to Mr. Harper's truck and the man's friends don't exactly take it well. Later on, however, Ryan convinces the mean man to fork over some cash.
Maya, along kind of similar lines, forks over approval on the hospital proposal - and then dumps Matt. Kirsten is worried that Sandy is taking business too far. But, wait, it's a breaking up theme, kids: the hour ends with Ryan and Marissa ending their relationship over the phone. While the latter cries at her favorite life guard stand (and Vulchak wanders over), the former ends up playing cards again with Sadie in the pool house.
