As the episode begins, birds and singing a little more beautifully and the sun is shining a little brighter ... because Johnny is dead!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! For some reason, Marissa and others are sad about this. It does, however, lead to the arrival of Sadie, Johnny's cousin.
Before the beach funeral, Summer confronts Seth about his marijunaical lie. She isn't particularly upset about the illegal drug use, but the lying involved in the cover-up. Meanwhile, Sadie meets Marissa at the diner and presents her with a gift from the grave - a necklace the dead (!!!!!!!) annoyance asked his cousin to make for his supposed girlfriend. She makes a different kind of impression on Ryan at the wake and we can only pray he chooses to fall for this non-Marissa character.
Later the next night, Kirsten and Julie host a Valentine's Day dance. Marissa chooses not to go with Ryan because she a self-absorbed female with an eating disorder; Seth makes up for his previous lies with a thoughtful note; Sandy dances away with the lovely wife he bought sexy lingerie for; Dr. Roberts asks Julie to be his Valentine; Kaitlin leaves in the middle of the night to go back to school with Justin; and Ryan leaves to help Sadie pack up Johnny's room.
