The show bgins with the grim reminder that Johnny didn't die last week. The gang drops him off at home after the hospital, with Marissa heading inside along with the suffering surfer in order to take care of him. Later that night, he admits to Summer that he crushes so big time on Marissa. But don't tell the stick figure!
Back at the Cohens, Kirsten and Julie are brainstorming ideas for their business. Fortunately, they choose not to enter the Internet marketing realm and focus instead on party planning. Julie even meets their first client at a lunch, a nice man named Jeff who hires this dining duo for a dinner party. When it turns out he was just tyring to land a date with JuJu, it provides the ladies with inspiration - they should start a high end dating service!
In other business news, Sandy assigns Matt a major proposal for a meeting the following day. The young man with the cool name and his new intern, Ryan, take off for a strip club to burn off steam before pulling the all-nighter. Irreponsible? Perhaps. But also not a very good idea. Matt goes on to tank the proposal, but Sandy gives him a second chance when he learns that he had just been dumped by his ex-girlfriend. Is Sandy too nice to run a business? What would Charlotte have done? Or Luke?
All of a sudden, meanwhile, Summer is chock full of intelligence! She receives a 2,300 on her SATs and figures she might as well apply to Brown with Seth. This irks the know-it-all nerd, however, because his intelligence was the one positive attribute he brought to the relationship. This leads to a wonderful war between the couple as they vie for Brown's affection. In the end, they agree that whoever is accepted will still be loved by the other one. And all is well is Summer/Seth land.
Can the same be said for Ryan and Marissa? Who cares?!? I mean, no, unfortunately, they have more trouble. Pumped full of Vicotin - and really good hair - Johnny admits his feelings for Marissa. She feels awkward about it, especially because she had been spending all her days with this new pal. She hadn't even found time to eat. Ryan had been spending all his time lapping up dances and business ideas, so the two had barely seen each other. This doesn't mean that the audience wasn't subjected to futher inane drama, however. The episode concludes in a completely unique way, as Ryan and Marissa sort of make up over the phone and viewers are left to wonder about the future of their relationship. Again. Dear God.
